CAREER PROGRESSION

Felicia Edu-uwem Etim started her career in 1985 as Librarian 11 and Faculty of Science Liaison Officer in the erstwhile University of Cross River State now University of Uyo since 1991. After confirmation in 1988, she was promoted Librarian 1 and transferred to the Faculty of Business Administration Library at Ikot Osurua campus. In 1992 she was promoted Senior Librarian and made Head of Reference Services in the Nyong Essien Library. On acquisition of the Ph.D in Library and Information Science in 1993 , she was laterally transferred from the University Library to the Department of Educational Technology and Library Science , Faculty of Education to start the Library School as Unit Coordinator as Lecturer 1. In 1998, Felicia Etim was promoted Senior Lecturer and appointed Acting Head of Department of Educational Technology and Library Science. She was promoted Associate Professor in 2000. In 2005 Felicia Etim was appointed University Librarian , University of Uyo and Professor of Library Development and Information Management. Professor Felicia Etim served as University Librarian from 2005 to 2015. In 2016, she was appointed Research Scholar in the National Universities Commission, Abuja.




PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & AFFILIATION

Felicia Etim has practiced librarianship for over thirty years and has been involved in the education and training of librarians for the same period of her professional experience. Professor Felicia Etim is certified by the Librarians’ Registration Council (LRCN) and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Library Association (FNLA). She is also affiliated to the American Library Association (ALA), and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), United Kingdom. She was the Principal Consultant to Akwa Ibom E-Library project. She has been the Chief Adviser to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Library Development and Services. She is a Member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutes (IFLA). She is also a Member of the National Association of Library and Information Science Educators (NALISE). Professor Felicia Etim was the immediate past Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Library Board (2003-2007) and was the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Library Association from 2003-2010. She is the President and Founder, Association of Educationists and Information Managers (ASSEIMA) 1997 to date. Professor Felicia Etim is Editor-in-Chief of two professional journals, author of five books and widely published, so far , 75 articles in national and international journals. Her areas of interest are Information User Studies, Information Literacy and Information Technologies specifically focusing in the area of Library Development and Information Management. She is External Examiner to many library schools in Africa and Consultant Information Manager to UNESCO, UNDP, World Bank .
Professor Felicia Etim has taught at different times over 60 courses ranging from Diploma , Undergraduate and Post Graduate in Library Science , Information Science , Records Management and Publishing. She has successfully supervised over 70 undergraduate projects , 36 Masters dissertations and 24 Doctoral theses within the University of Uyo. As External Examiner to other Universities in Nigeria like University of Nigeria , Nsukka, University of Ibadan , Abia State University Uturu , Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka , University of Calabar , Babcock University Ilishan – Remo etc she has contributed to the establishment of standards of qualification and proficiency as Library Educator . As leader she has successfully mentored and established so far about 10 Professors and University Librarians proficient in their areas of influence. Professor Felicia Etim is a recurrent appointee in the West African region for the external assessment of Associate Professors and Professors in her field. Some of such institutions include Kwame Nkuruma University of Science and Technology , Kumasi , Ghana. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife ,Akwa Ibom State University , Ikot Akpaden, University of Calabar etc. As Akwa Ibom State Chairman , Nigerian Library Association from 2003 to 2010 and council member, Professor Etim facilitated the unity of all persons engaged or interested in the Library and Information Service profession. She has been at the forefront of advocacy for standards of quality service for libraries, improvement of the professional prestige and working conditions of librarians.
 

Professor Felicia Etim is the Founder and Chairman Board of Trustees of Readership Development and Information Literacy Advocacy (REDILA) an NGO with a strategic approach to create a reading culture and life long information literacy .

REDILA has a vision of a sustained cost effective and appropriate Library and Information service to accommodate the needs of information seekers and maintain a reading culture in society.

REDILA has programmes for the Kindergarten and Primary School , Secondary Schools ,Tertiary Institutions and the Rural Community .
